Why square jars instead of round ones
Have you also opened a kitchen cupboard to see a collection of jars, bags, and containers that are staggered and never quite snug? You aren't the only one. The simplest reason for choosing a square storage jar over a round one is the space. Round jars always leave small, empty gaps where they curve away from each other. Square jars, on the other hand, stand side by side with straight edges against each other, allowing you to utilize the full depth and width of the shelf. In practice, this means you can fit more jars on the same shelf, and the row stands straight and steady rather than bumping into one another.
The jars in this collection have straight sides and a wooden lid, and it is precisely that shape that makes them easy to line up along a shelf edge or inside a drawer. You get both better space and a more uniform look because the row appears cohesive. If you want to compare them with the round variants, you will find them in storage jars, where both round and square models are placed side by side.
How to choose between 500, 1000, 1800, and 2000 ml
The jars are available in four sizes, and it is a good idea to think about what you are filling them with before you choose. The smallest 500 ml jars are well-suited for what you use a little of at a time: nuts, seeds, baking powder, chia seeds, or a portion of snacks. The 1000 ml size is a flexible middle ground for oatmeal, rice, lentils, and most dry goods in general household use.
If you need space for what you buy in larger bags, the 1800 ml and the largest 2000 ml sizes are good for pasta, flour, sugar, and muesli. A one-kilo bag of flour typically takes up about one and a half liters, so the largest jars hit the mark here. A good trick is to buy one size to start with and see how it fits in your cupboard before you build up the entire row. That way, you will quickly find your own combination of small and large.
Light or dark acacia wood lid
The collection comes in two expressions for the wooden lid. The light variant has a light wooden lid that provides a calm, Nordic look, while the dark one has an acacia wood lid with warmer, darker grain patterns. Acacia is a hardwood with clear, lively graining, so no two lids will ever look exactly alike, which is part of the charm of the natural material.
The choice is mostly about what suits your kitchen. If you have light cabinet fronts and countertops, the light lid plays well with that. If you have darker wood, black, or brass in the kitchen, the dark acacia ties the expression together. If you want to see the light selection on its own, you will find it under square storage jars with light wood lids. Regardless of what you choose, the jar is the same transparent glass, so you retain a full overview of the contents.
How the wooden lid keeps dry goods fresh
The whole point of a storage jar is that food lasts longer than it does in an open bag. The wooden lids here seal tightly around the jar, making it difficult for air and moisture to get in. This helps keep dry goods like oatmeal, flour, and pasta fresh, and it also keeps small pests and dust out. To get the best seal, it is important that both the glass rim and the lid are completely dry when you put the lid on. If moisture gets into a jar of flour or sugar, it will clump, no matter how well the lid seals.
The transparent glass does the rest of the work: you can see exactly how much is left without opening it. This saves you from standing in the supermarket wondering if you have enough rice at home. If you want an even sharper overview, you can attach labels to the front so each jar is clearly marked.
How to clean jars and wooden lids
The jar itself is easy to keep clean and can be rinsed and washed like other glassware. The wooden lid requires a bit more care. Wood and water are not best friends over time, so a wooden lid with silicone or a gasket should not be soaked or put in the dishwasher, where heat and water can cause the wood to warp, crack, or lose its natural oil. Instead, wipe the lid off with a well-wrung cloth and let it dry completely before you put it back on. Once in a while, you can treat the wood with a little cooking oil to keep it looking nice.
When cleaning the jar itself, wash it with dish soap as usual and dry it thoroughly inside before refilling it with dry goods. That little extra care for the wood pays off: a well-maintained wooden lid stays nice for years and preserves the tight seal.
Build a cohesive row on the shelf
The jars really come into their own when several stand together. The square shape means that an entire row can stand edge to edge without gaps, and with the same type of lid on top, you get a calm, uniform look instead of a mix of bags and containers in different colors. It is both neat and practical: you see exactly what you have at once, and you can take a jar out and put it back without knocking over its neighbor.
If you want a quick start with a complete set rather than choosing the sizes individually, they are available as a square glass light bundle solution, where several sizes go together. If the jars are to be part of a larger cleanup of cupboards and drawers, you can get concrete methods in our guide to storage jars for dry goods - see the selection and create order. You don't have to turn the whole kitchen upside down at once. Start with one cupboard, build your row, and let the system grow from there. If you have questions along the way, we are ready to help.
